Our Sunday School Christmas Party
On the 22nd, Gigi & Hidy were gone to San Antonio; they took Lauren & Devin to see Trinity win the state football championship.
Because I was working on the Christmas letter that day, I procrastinated about lining up a sitter for that night. We had RSVP'd to attend the annual party for our Sunday School class, but I hadn't made plans beyond that.
I called Amy that afternoon and she & Brian were at AA Center seeing Tech play basketball. She said they could keep the kids and she'd give me a call when they were on their way home.
It was a great plan except I didn't know when the party started and she didn't know when they'd be home. As it turned out we were 2 hours late for the party. We were greeted in a funny way, like, "What in the world happened?" Like whatever happened to us was the result of a bad day, not poor planning. But our gracious friends and hosts insisted immediately, "Come and eat!" (So we did, immediately.)
My friend Angie was telling a story about how she'd searched several grocery stores for lemon zest (which she found out about when she asked at Market Street--and of course the nice people working there were happy to sell her a zester) when less than 10 minutes into the meal, I was chewing and felt a familiar pain and scare. My new crown--only 3 days old--had broken while I was eating. I couldn't believe it. Another Saturday. Another holiday weekend. Deja vu all over again! My friend Dawn told us about getting a gold crown at a dentist office stuck in the past and how she's waiting for something to happen to it so it can be replaced.
We still had a good time, but I was anxious to get home and brush my teeth and see the damage. We didn't stay much past the white elephant gift exchange (which seems to get worse every year).
Anyway these are some of our friends. Everyone in the class has kids our kids' ages and younger (and some have a few older, too). It's a community that's important to our family.
I didn't get pictures of everyone because some people had to leave soon after we got there. But after taking these kinds of pictures for years, this is the first time I've done anything with them, I think!
Lorie joked during the party (or at Jack's, I can't remember) that somewhere in my computer are hundreds of pictures of her 5 kids.

YEA for all the pictures! Every year when January rolls around, we look back and wonder how we survived the busy holidays. Yours look like they were amazingly busy--but fun!
