I have been procrastinating because I could not get past this post. David says, "You don't have to post everything." And that's true. So I don't know why I don't skip it, except that it feels like cheating. And today's post ought to be about Eva being two months old, but it's not.
Because I went back to work for the last FOUR DAYS of school, I only attended part of Gabriel's "awards" ceremony because it was during my conference period. Yes, I left school on my first day back. Anyway I made it to Gabe's thing, which was really cute, but I got there late with a dead camera in the rain and took over for David in videotaping because he had to leave (very) early. I had also missed Carmen's kindergarten ceremony so I'd never seen them sing the same numbers: the school song and then "First Grade, First Grade" to the tune of "New York, New York" complete with top hats and high kicks. The choreography got more and more complicated at the end of that song, but by then I'd run out of DV tape.
I missed Carmen's "awards" ceremony completely because it was held on the last day of school. (I was giving a final exam.) I put "awards" in quotations marks because in fact no one gets awards. As one of my friend neighbors put it, everything is too PC for any child to be singled out for an award.
Anyway I asked David to go to Carmen's thing and he took pictures and explained that Carmen's class was the last of all of them, so he heard every single 2nd grader tell their favorite thing about the year.
The other classes lined up one way across the stage after they'd read their thing, but Carmen's class came in another direction and lined up backwards. So the letters that they're holding are supposed to say The Incredibles in Spanish, but when I looked at the pictures, I couldn't even tell what they were spelling, even though I knew they were backwards and in Spanish.
"los increibles"
the incredibles
When I bought that dress for Carmen, I envisioned it as a costume... it reminded me of Dancing with the Stars (although I've seen only about half an episode of that!). But I gave in when she begged to wear it for the ceremony.
Anyway here is her class, what's left of the 26 she started with last year.
