Rachel's Challenge

Our students and staff were asked today to take up Rachel’s Challenge and positively change the way they treat each other, in memory of Rachel Scott, the first student killed at Columbine High School.

Since that day, April 20, 1999, Scott’s family has used Rachel’s documented acts of kindness and compassion, coupled with the content of her six diaries, to take Rachel’s Challenge to schools around the country.

Cody Hodges of Rachel’s Challenge addressed our students today at two assemblies. Afterwards, there was one student training session to demonstrate how to sustain the momentum generated by the assembly.

The student assemblies used video and audio clips of Rachel’s life and the Columbine tragedy to motivate students to positively change the way they treat others.

Both evening presentations were open to the public, and students of all ages were encouraged to attend, with their parents and families. The evening presentations end with a specific challenge to parents, showing them how they can reinforce the decisions their youth are making.

Rachel’s Challenge, www.rachelschallenge.com, is a non-profit organization. Cody Hodges was a professional football player before joining Rachel’s Challenge. His bio is available on the Rachel’s Challenge web site.

I highly encourage everyone I know to go and witness Rachel's Challenge for yourself if you have the opportunity!
