For a week or more, Carmen was not feeling well. She was coughing a lot. She seemed so miserable that although I didn't expect the doctor to be able to do anything for her, I made an appointment anyway.
When we got to the doctor's office, I heard the receptionist on the phone with a parent: "I know it's raining, and I'm sorry, but if you don't come today, the next appointment we have is . . .(something far off, like October)". The people in the office were kind of incredulous that this parent didn't want to get out in "the weather" (it was dark and sprinkling) to come to an appointment. Dr. W saw me roll my eyes.
I know this because later he said something like, I saw you roll your eyes about that mom who didn't want to get her one child out in the rain, and here you are with four. (Which reminds me, my mom keeps saying things like, you're going to do--fill in the blank--with FOUR KIDS? Like whatever it is is some kind of feat. She's cracking me up. As if she didn't have three kids herself.)
The kids amused themselves while we waited for our turn.
And then, to my surprise, there was something they could do. Dr. W ordered a breathing treatment for Carmen.
He also gave us samples of an inhaler and a nebulizer to take home.
He diagnosed Carmen's illness as bronchitis. And he said that if someone gets bronchitis frequently, it's called asthma. I had no idea!

Our next waiting room was for an orthodontic consultation for Carmen. Her front teeth have recently gotten messed up, apparently there is not enough room in her mouth right now!
Gabriel added a sink to this toothbrush picture in the waiting room.
Carmen complied with the strange directions.
The x-rays showed that Carmen isn't ready for braces yet. After talking to the orthodontist, I felt justified in bringing her in (he said come back next year) and good about the office because they didn't try to sign us up just to get our money.
After that we went to get more Quadrilla at our local teachers' supply store.
Gabe had been very patient about trading in his gift cards for more pieces.

Somehow I got these cute pictures of little Eva.

And that night we had David open his Father's day presents that we hadn't yet had time to give him! This poster came with a free subscription to Rolling Stone, which David and I had both subscribed to when we were younger.

Paloma wanted to try on David's FC Barcelona soccer jerseys. But she wanted to wear them her way.

And Carmen and Gabriel wanted to show David (and the camera) another way they'd found to entertain Paloma--this was one they did while we were in line at Wal-Mart. Yikes.
Happy Belated Father's Day, David!
