On the last day of soccer camp,
we took Carmen ourselves since there were no swimming lessons.
Gabe and Paloma watched for a bit and we were all enjoying the shade and the breeze under the trees on the sidelines.
Eva got passed around as usual (this is Laura, Margo's mom who brought Carmen to camp or home all week).
Nesha came again to see us but this time she had Hannah and Rachel with her.
Carmen was playing in a mini-tournament "World Cup".
Eva was in a good mood, appreciating Paloma's attention.
Paloma dressed up in the soccer kit that we bought in 1999 in Spain.
Even Rachel practiced her dribbling.
So did Paloma.
But the next thing we knew Paloma hit Rachel with a stick. There was so much to keep up with. I went and had a chat with P and she apologized.
This is the crowd gathered for the much-anticipated moment when the winning World Cup coach was going to be doused with water:
Jo was the winning coach. (She also is the one who stayed with Margo's family for the week. Her accent was so thick most people had trouble understanding her!)
This is a group shot of all the campers. Carmen's in front of the coach in the right side of this photo (two kids away from the flag).
After the games were over, each kid was given a synopsis of their skills with a note from their coach and the coaches signed the kids' balls and shirts.
This kiddo went running across the field with the winning flag. And his parents invited the campers and coaches to their restaurant, Amores, for pizza, so that's where we went next. (Even Nesha got brave and we took all of the kids there since we figured Chick-fil-A would be overrun on a Friday at noon. Usually you can't even park there near lunch time.)
This is the last picture I got because my battery died. But everyone had a lot of pizza (I had a yummy chicken tetrazini dish since I can't eat cheese) and the kids played outside in the gazebo afterward. Amazingly, it actually turned out to be a free lunch, so I'm planning on coming back to patronize this mom & pop shop.
