Happy 10th Anniversary
Jackie's gift to us for Eva's birth was an evening out, and we saved it to use for our anniversary. As you can see, Eva did not mind being left in her care, and the other kids were beside themselves to have her at our house.
As David's family said growing up, "Bye Vete!" (It's a made-up Spanglish phrase that means something like, "Shoo!")
But first, Jackie took our picture.
We'd only made it to the gas station on the corner when David got a work call, though. We had reservations at a fancy schmancy place for dinner. But we were running very late because David had a big thing going on at work. That morning, a woman had gotten off a plane with her 12 year old son. When he went to the restroom in the terminal, she took off, starting an almost 24-hour woman hunt and a flurry of media interest and coverage. So instead of going where we had planned to go, David suggested going to eat at the airport where we'd be close if she was found and he had to be there.
We parked and went to the Grand Hyatt, where we sat in a posh restaurant puzzling over the cryptic menu. I asked a couple of questions about it when the waiter came, and he turned on a computer monitor that explained the whole menu.
I was shocked by the prices and even more shocked that nothing on the menu appealed to me. When I saw that the thing I was leaning towards was made with a thigh of chicken that I'd have to pick off the bone--I admit it, I'm spoiled, I don't like to mess with bones--and it still cost upwards of $30 a la carte, I thought, this is ridiculous. And worse than that was the fishy smell coming from the kitchen. They serve a lot of seafood, and I like some seafood and even sushi, but this was not a good smell. And I asked David if he'd be embarrassed to leave and go somewhere else. We hadn't ordered yet and I didn't want to stay there. So we left, apologizing to the waiter.
We ended up at the Reata Grill. I had never been there.
It was a little strange to eat our anniversary dinner with plasticware, but that is all that's available behind security.
These tenderloin tamale appetizers were delicious--the best thing I had. David like the fish he ordered, but my chicken fried steak was mediocre, served with forgettable mashed potatoes and gravy on a colorless plate. I'm looking forward to using the Pappas GC Mom gave us for our anniversary when they came back from San Antonio.
After dinner we browsed for a little while in a Starbucks before heading back to the car, but I couldn't last long in the heels!
Maybe next year I can add some wedding pictures. But I can't now. I'm too far behind!Meanwhile here is the picture from our church directory portrait appointment. Having seen three-week-old Eva, the photographer said something about more kids and caught us both off guard.
