Book blast & sock hop
After school on Friday we went to the 2nd annual Book Blast, an event created to promote reading. Each child who attended got a free book. (I asked the librarians working this table if it drove them crazy as it did me to have the books all piled and disheveled like this.)
The kids got to climb around on a fire truck
and jump in a bounce house.
After that we met David at Chili's, where we took turns trying to wrangle Paloma. I just happened to have Carmen's camera in my purse and got this shot. At least she doesn't get out of the booth and get in the waiters' way...
Next, the big event: our third annual trip to the kids' school's sock hop.
I had laid out our clothes ahead of time so we could change quickly, but it took us an HOUR to change everyone's clothes and get out of the house again.
We were trying to get to the sock hop in time for the kids to use the tickets they had earned at school for games and snacks, but we really only arrived in time for the dance part. As soon as we got there, Paloma took off by herself toward the playground. This time Carmen and Gabriel went to get her.
You can tell she appreciates this.
She cheered up when she discovered, shrieking with delight, "Eva's AWAKE!"
David likes to play around taking pictures from the hip. Sometimes he gets something usable.
Again everyone passed Eva around and everyone asked about her poodle skirt, which was a hand-me-down from Paloma. (We now know where to get all things sock hop--an antique mall near Amy's house. This year we only had to get a new skirt for Paloma.)
Daddy shared a dance with two girls at once!
Gabriel used his tickets to try and dunk his p.e. teacher.
The kids posed with their friend Macy.
Once Gabe was out of tickets, he was ready to go. He amused himself by pushing the stroller on the edges of the dance area.
Our neighbor, friend and room mother Leticia, was great, helping get all of the girls dancing.
Poor Eva was all tuckered out! I wanted Maya to see her in her poodle skirt and shirt, but it wasn't meant to be.
1 Comments:
that poodle skirt is ADORABLE and Maya would have LOVED LOVED it.
