Our first Saturday without soccer felt like such a relief to me... David made us pancakes and then the kids put on a concert (they had prepared the night before, but it was too late for us to sit down and listen after we'd eaten dinner).

You can see the earnestness with which Gabriel is playing his part.

and Carmen played several instruments with all seriousness, as well.

Gabriel conducted Carmen from atop the marble coffee table

while Carmen played as many instruments as she could at one time.

As usual, Paloma wanted to be near Eva

but she also played a small part in the music making.
It was funny to me that this was the first time my kids have put on a concert; when I was a kid, this was something we did all of the time. I remember trying to decide what songs to perform, making programs, finding costumes... actually that was a good preview of my adult life, I guess.

My goal for the day was to trim our trees. I'd spied a few web worms again and our tree was enormous. Plus, it was a nice, cool weekend compared to what it would be soon. (David was not thrilled to do this, but later thanked me because the weather got hot fast after that.) We borrowed a saw and a ladder from my dad (thanks for delivering them, too, Hidy!).

As David cut the limbs, I dragged them to the front of the yard. Many of them crossed the sidewalk, so Gabriel decided to put out traffic cones and make a "Coshion" sign.

It doesn't look like that much of a dragon here, but it was hours of hard work (my arms were numb after cutting one small branch with Dad's saw that David used for hours).

Incidentally, I captured this picture of the construction sign near Gigi & Hidy's house. Someone thinks the recent construction is evil, apparently, and not just inconvenient!

Coshion! Hilarious.
We put on a bunch of concerts in our day, huh? I look forward to hearing our kiddos do that. So cute. Oliver and I recently began piano lessons so maybe it won't be long.
Gabe is looking more like you than ever!
Happy Fourth!
