A three-party day

Our first party of the day was at my school, a celebration of the seniors who are graduating soon. It was my job to bring the food. Normally during the year our volunteer brings the food, but since I was off on maternity leave, this was our plan. The last two times we got fajitas for our lunch, my DH David delivered it for us.

Anyway I was really impressed with myself for getting out the door with both Paloma and Eva dressed and looking cute in their white and navy (school colors) matching hand-me-downs. But as you know, pride cometh before a fall.

We went to Rosa's, drove through to get the food, then headed to school. Parking was a little difficult, though; we were far away from my classroom. And when it was time to get out of the car, Paloma refused to do so.

I had the stroller weighed down already (and I wasn't even trying to bring in the food for 20) so I needed Paloma's cooperation, but instead she ran into the parking lot, making my heart race and my imagination leap. A high school parking lot is not a great place for her to make a run for freedom. So I put the stroller on the sidewalk and ran to catch her, carrying her back kicking and screaming.

She stayed quiet and withdrawn once we were inside, but I was mobbed with students wanting to say hello and see the baby.

She eventually warmed up because one of my students brought in the spinning office chair from across the hall. After lunch I tried to get a photo, but found out my battery was dead.

After that I had to hurry and take her to my mom's so I could go to Gabriel's kindergarten Mother's Day tea, where he and his classmates sang songs, served us drinks and cookies, and showed us the gifts they'd made for us.

Given the choice, Gabe opted to ride the bus home (as always).

The kids weren't home long before it was time to go again. Gabe's dear friend Ollantay (from preschool) was celebrating her 6th birthday at Pump It Up and we were excited to see her whole family again.

We had thought David would be home from his trip in time to go with us, but his plane was delayed. (Ironic since that was the topic of the trip.)

Yes, Moma put on her own shoes.

Ollantay didn't appreciate Paloma licking her.

We were all happy when David joined us.
Liliana had a turn with Eva.
Happy Birthday, sweet girl!

It was a long day, reminding me of my childhood when people used to tell my mom she needed to learn to say "no" more often. I think I need to do that, too. But even in retrospect I couldn't choose which party to skip if I'd had to.
